Lesson 4: Phone & Tablet Safety
Lesson 4 of 6
Phones and tablets store personal information. A few simple habits can help keep your device and your data safe.
Lock Your Device
Using a screen lock helps protect your device if it is lost or borrowed.
- Use a PIN, pattern, fingerprint, or face lock
- Avoid easy codes like 1234
- Do not share your unlock code
App Safety
Apps are programs you install on your phone or tablet.
- Only install apps from the official app store
- Be cautious of apps asking for too many permissions
- Remove apps you no longer use
Text Messages and Calls
Scammers may contact you by text message or phone call.
Avoid: Urgent texts asking for money or codes
Better: Ignore, delete, or hang up
Updates Matter
- Install updates when your device asks
- Updates fix security problems
- Charging overnight is a good time to update
You Are in Control
You never have to respond right away. It is okay to stop, close an app, or ask for help.
